Meeting held January 9, 2009.  Call to order at 7:45am.

  • Board Expansion—The board discussed inviting Joe Handy, Vice President of Education at the Georgia Aquarium to join the board.  The board has also approached Holly Mattingly from Coca Cola about joining the board.
  • Technology Initiative
    • Currently, all printers have arrived and will be installed over the next week.  APS has inspected all switches to ensure that printers will be wirelessly connected throughout the school area.
    • The Board moved to approve funds to purchase wireless access points to address “dead zones” in certain areas of the school.
  • Cafeteria Audio-Visual Upgrade—The Board discussed two proposals to upgrade the current audio-visual equipment in the cafeteria with prices coming in between $35,000 and $120,000, dependant on equipment choices.  The Board agreed to collect more proposals before determining how to proceed with this project.
  • Fundraising Updates
    • The Board discussed possible locations for holding a large fundraising event at the end of May.  They agreed to focus on locations that would keep extraneous costs (parking, security, catering, etc.) low.  Some possibilities were:  the Georgia Power building, the King Chapel at Morehouse, one of the area hotels, or a space at Georgia Tech.
    • The Board is working to create a proposal to be submitted to a musician in order to sell concert tickets as a fundraiser.
