The Centennial Place School Foundation was formed in February 2007 as a tax exempt entity to engage in major fundraising initiatives to support Centennial Place Elementary school and supplement the activities of the PTA and other support organizations. The first undertaking of the Foundation was a major overhaul of the technology in the school. The Foundation started a major fundraising effort which received the support of parents, teachers, students and corporate sponsors. In addition, the Board of Directors commenced an intense dialogue with the school board about the technology project. As a result of this effort, the 2007-2008 school year opened with all new technology in full use throughout the classrooms, specials areas, the Media Center, and the all new Mac Technology Lab. This technology included Thin Clients in all the classrooms and Promethean Boards in our Media Center, Science Lab, and Tech Lab. The teachers, led by our Technology team, have been working to thoughtfully integrate the technology into their curriculum.
The Foundation then looked to our next step in supporting our school community? offering grants to the teachers for Student Enrichment and Teacher Training. After opening the process to the teachers, the Foundation reviewed some wonderful grants and was able to fund, either partially or fully, all grant proposals submitted to us. The grants include some wonderful ideas for enhancing the teaching process to really promote achievement among our students:
We are incredibly excited about our progress. From the beginning we have been able to make significant changes to the way we reach and teach our students. While we have made significant progress, we still have much more to accomplish for the benefit of the school.
